Weather Mess

What a weekend,  yuk! High winds and a lot of rain!!!  I did have another visit from my new buddy the Great Blue Heron,  its funny,   he is very interested in the statue I have at the pond. He seems concerned the bird hasn’t moved in months lol.

Momma and Woody have returned also, it is a surprise to me that they must have had a late baby because she came in quite clumsy.  Momma and daddy came down to eat with her. It is spectacular to see her come almost to me on the porch and this time poof,  she takes a bath in our small water pond. It was cool,  she actually swam !!!!!  The wind was howling out so when she came out onto the post she dried pretty quick, but it was long enough to get an education on some of the habits they have.  I am still amazed that they are comfortable enough to take a bath in front of me as they are super vulnerable at that time.   What an honor!!  I have read so much on these birds but I firmly believe that animals react to those who are studying them and if you are lucky they will want to study you too.

My concern for lack of forest space for our animals is growing rapidly,  I have been watching what is left of our trees and property evaporate so fast that we have pushed these animals into suburbs where people refuse to exist with them and I think the problem is getting worse where I am at an alarming rate. So provided shelter, food, water and habitat for our nature buddies is essential and any of us that can provide these things will make a difference.

I have put together my own foods and I am currently working on a way to package and offer it for you all to try so stay tuned for that.

Have a wonderful day,  we have another set of storms coming up so time to prepare……..

Happy Thanksgiving

It’s a horrible stormy day except the temperature is incredibly warm.  I found my outdoor friends looking a bit confused but it will be short-lived as cold and wind is coming back.

I change my feeding patterns during the winter so yesterday was crazy,  even the bees woke up !!!

It has been 3 days now since Woody and Momma have been by,  I have their favorite suet for today so hopefully my hawk activity is down.  We’ll see.

Lots of cooking and prepping to do today so off to work lol

Blessings to all!

Unexpected Surprise :)

How exciting,  I looked outside just as a Great Blue Heron stopped in for a visit.  It is a bad picture but if you look close you can see I have different Heron ornaments around each pond so he fit right in!!! My list of unexpected visitors just keeps growing,  but this one was really cool.  I was afraid to go outside so my picture and video is from the house but he was totally cool and unbelievable. I can’t stop smiling 🙂

What a change

My small nature sanctuary  with all my buddies has had a very rough year.  If only we would all pay close attention to the severe effects that take place when all the trees are torn down.  We have seriously failed in our attempt to share this world with the entire circle of life that we All need in order to survive.

Woody and Momma are now limited on how they can come in to visit,  my area is really all that’s left in this section as they just wiped out over 40 acres of forest again and pushed those animals into what is left.  This means I now have Bald Eagles, Red Tail hawks, huge pack of coyotes all coming to this small sanctuary to eat.

I lost Momma Duck, and my male Flicker in the same day which led me to stopping all my feeding. This didn’t work well as we had the hottest summer here ever and the food supply was limited,  add all the Fires also and it becomes very clear our nature friends need our help.

Today we are cleaning up from a week of storms and my locals are really busy,  Buster is still here but has had several close calls so I have to be really creative in my feeding.

Red, the hawk is getting the nick name of sneaky Pete !!! I watch him sneak into the shrubs just before dawn waiting.  Cooper is also here but Red seems to dominate.

I have a new Crow  I call Jabbers that is really good at giving out the warning call when sneaky Pete arrives haha. The Stellar Jays take turns it seems dive bombing Cooper to fish him out, but they scatter when Red is around. That’s when the Crows get involved with some serious cries. But when that Eagle comes in ….you can hear a pin drop in the forest.

My point in all of this is to remind everyone that our Wildlife needs our help. Each home can help in some way and some even more.  I would like to start selling my mixtures and housed I build but so many already do it.  If your reading this send me a message about your thoughts good or bad.

Thanks
